David’s diverse career spans over three decades in radio broadcasting and astronomy. Beginning as a breakfast announcer at 2CHY Coffs Harbour, he quickly became involved in establishing community radio stations 2NVR and Tank Radio. In 1993, he joined 2WAY FM, where he remains active today. His radio talents earned him national recognition, winning the Radio Announcer of the Year award in 1996 and the ‘Spirit of Tamworth’ NSW Announcer of the Year in 1997.
As a qualified adult education teacher, David conducted a year-long Community Radio Training Program in 1998. Throughout his career, he has served in various roles including committee member, fundraiser, and sponsorship director for multiple radio stations. Currently, David continues his involvement with 2WAYFM, presenting two breakfast shows on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as his ‘My Kinda Country’ program on Wednesdays at noon. He has also served as a sponsorship director for the station.
Beyond radio, David is an accomplished astronomer, leading stargazing tours to Norfolk Island and regularly appearing as a guest expert on over 50 Australian radio stations. He’s on ABC Radio’s ‘preferred speaker’ list and contributes to science magazines and newspapers as a journalist and graphic artist, focusing on astronomy and space topics.
